Lower Back Pain Relief – Tips and Advice

I have suffered from pain in my back for years. For me, seeking lower back pain relief is a top priority when I am experiencing a flareup. Back pain is seriously debilitating and hampers your every move. I have had episodes where I am lying down on the carpet unable to get up. As anyone who has been in this predicament knows, carpeting is not the most comfortable surface and you will really regret not vacuuming it more frequently! If you are a victim of back pain that prevents you from participating in everyday activities, you need to seek relief immediately. Your doctor is the best source for an initial consultation and diagnosis of the source of the pain.
If your back pain is the result of a significant injury, getting lower back pain relief may require medical assistance or even a stay in the hospital depending on the severity of your condition. For most of us, there are other less extreme options available because our pain is the result of a few factors, some of them under our control, some not. Your weight plays a big role in what shape your back is in. If you are significantly overweight, you must lose weight to reduce the strain on your back. The worst kind of fatty deposits are those around your stomach area. They are linked to heart disease in addition to creating large stresses on your back so it is in your best interest to lose that weight as quickly as you can.
Prevention is a large part of staying away from back problems. If you are at an optimal weight and you are fit, you won’t need to seek lower back pain relief as often. Your occupation may be the cause of your back pain. Men in construction jobs are subject to large stresses from carrying heavy objects and intense physical labor. Interestingly enough, office workers can also be subject to large physical stresses placed on their backs for different reasons. Sitting for long periods of time without moving can aggravate back pain. If you work at a computer, force yourself to get up and walk around and stretch at frequent intervals. Do not take this time to find the snack machine! Keeping trim will help a lot.
Finding the Right Low Back Pain Treatment – Some Tips

When seeking treatment for an ailment or condition, it is important to consider the nature of the problem before jumping from one thing to the next. Finding the right low back pain treatment is a matter of recognizing the type of pain you have and its source. If you have mild discomfort from time to time, especially after strenuous labor or exercise, you will most likely need a different treatment than if you have a degenerative back problem.
Exercising and keeping fit are almost always the best options to reducing or managing back pain. There are circumstances where exercising is not possible or is very restricted. If you have bulging or herniated discs in your back, you must be very careful with any repetitive movement. One thing you will surely notice is that any excess weight is going to aggravate your condition so even if you cannot do much or any exercise, losing those extra pounds may be your best option. Any low back pain treatment you are considering must take your individual needs into account. Any exercise regimen that involves lifting weights should be avoided until you feel better.
One thing that has consistently helped me get back pain relief is my massage chair. Don’t go cheap when selecting your massage chair. There are many options available. Some of the available features include heat, moving massage zones, and differing massage methods. Some machines have percussive, shiatsu, and variable oscillating massage modes. Mixing it up has its benefits. Even in summertime, I like to keep the heat on during the massage. Also important is a built in timer. You don’t want a machine that will keep going if you fall asleep in the chair. After all, you are seeking the right low back pain treatment, not getting brutalized by a runaway massage chair.
A little common sense goes a long way. If you try an exercise and it starts to hurt, stop immediately. If you sit in a massage chair and it feels too rough, don’t buy it. If you take medications for pain and they make you feel worse, simply stop using them. Listen to your body when it is telling you what to do.
When To Seek a Back Pain Doctor

If you are the victim of a fall, in a car accident or similar situation, you most likely will seek the advice of a back pain doctor. Back injuries are nothing to fool around with. Ignoring an injury will almost always lead to further injuries and can even lead to permanent damage to your back. Some people love going to doctors and they are always looking for something wrong with them as an excuse to keep going back. I am on the other extreme. I loathe going to doctors and will hold out until the bitter end. Please don’t do as I do. When in pain, get help immediately. You’ll be happy you listened to me. When it comes to my back, even I don’t wait to get help.
If you are in need of the services of a back pain doctor, do some research beforehand. There are many services online that rate physicians and for a moderate fee, some even send you a report which details a doctor’s entire history including lawsuits and any disciplinary actions. It is vitally important to know a physician’s history before you visit their office. What you don’t know can hurt you a whole lot.
Once you have done your research and are happy with your doctor’s credentials, double check to make sure they are in your insurance plan’s network. Once you verify coverage, arrange to have a conversation with your intended physician. It is very important that your back pain doctor have the same philosophy as you do when it comes to treatment options. There are doctors who are very into holistic treatments and there are more traditional doctors who tread the tried and true path. You must be comfortable with their philosophy because you will be very unhappy indeed if you are constantly clashing with your physician when in pain. Your treatment is a collaborative effort so don’t leave anything to chance. If you get the wrong vibe from your doctor, don’t be afraid to assert yourself and listen to your instincts. Remember, your health is too important to bow to social niceties. Doctors are not deities and do make mistakes. They don’t know everything and the more you know, the better off you will be. Thoroughly investigate and research any treatment options that are presented to you. Don’t take anything at face value.
